Ion Homes For Sale
The I’on community in Mt Pleasant SC was named for Joseph Bond I’on (1782-1859), a War of 1812 hero, president of the South Carolina Senate and was the first Mayor of the Town of Sullivan’s Island.
I’On is a mixed-use New Urbanist “Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND)” style community. I’On was one of the earliest full-time residential new urbanist communities developed in the US. This urban and diverse village is a mix of residential and commercial buildings, a village square and locations for civic buildings such as churches and schools.
I’on has extensive sidewalks, shared public green spaces, trails and a grid of narrow, traffic calming streets. Homes are based on traditional Charleston architecture, and required to have a front porch of not less than eight feet in depth, raised foundations and smaller lot sizes that give the community a dense, vertical feel.
I’on features a commercial center called I’On Square . The community also has a wildlife refuge, several walking trails, two large lakes, and several parks. In addition to the top rated Mt Pleasant schools, I’on is home to East Cooper Montessori Charter School, one of the first successful Charter Schools in South Carolina.
I’on features the I’On Club, a conference and reception site located on the banks of Hobcaw Creek. The Creek Club has two grand fireplaces and deep wraparound porches in a perfect, Lowcountry setting. It offers swimming, tennis and fitness instructors with year round activities – lessons, social mixers, tournaments, kids’ camps and more.
