Buying Agent Charleston SC: Who’s Representing Who?

Hi everybody, new day, new video! My newest creation is for buyers in the greater Charleston SC area. It’s entitled “Who’s Representing Who?” and looks at agency relationships in South Carolina. It helps buyers to understand that the agent whose name is on the sign is the list agent, and represents the sellers.

While you can deal with the list agent and even have them draw up a contract, in the end you aren’t having an agent represent you. The list agent still represents the sellers, or, if they are doing what is known as Dual Agency (in which they are representing both parties), then neither party is actually getting full representation.

Neither scenario is advantageous for home buyers in Charleston SC. The best option for home buyers is to have their own real estate agent representing them in any purchase/negotiation situation. It only makes sense, especially when you consider the fact that the services of a real estate agent are free for home buyers in Charleston SC (or anywhere in South Carolina for that matter).

Just as you wouldn’t go to court without an attorney, why would you attempt to complete one of, if not the, biggest transactions of your life by yourself? Especially when you can have professional representation at no cost (the services of a real estate agent are paid for by the seller).
